Happy City

Ironically, the dispersed city that Tea Partiers defend so passionately is itself a product of centralized control and legislation.
Ch. 12, Happy City, Charles Montgomery

As a city dweller with an interest in urban design I found Charles Montgomery’s book, Happy City, equal parts fascinating, inspiring and infuriating. He shares several stories about life in the city compared to life in suburban sprawl, summarizes the history of how roads and zoning laws became what they are today, describes urban design innovations from cities around the world, and how all of these things impact our happiness.

With politics in the spotlight, I felt like this quote was particularly relevant (made me laugh one of those so-frustrating-it’s-funny laughs).
