Overthinking and redesigning a fragmented date format

This post by Joel Califa about the format of dates (MM/DD/YYYY vs. DD/MM/YYYY, etc.) is a great read if you’re the kind of nerd that I am. While I don’t agree with his proposed solution, I can definitely appreciate his thoroughness as well as how he explains his preference for the U.S. standard of Month Day Year.

This is another reason I appreciate the peculiar American format. It sheds consistency and structure in favor of usability. Information is organized in order of importance to the user, rather than importance to the system. It’s like organizing files by most used rather than alphabetically.
