Responsive Mood Boards

A great look at how Vox shifted their creative process.

“What do responsive mood boards get us? The idea that Photoshop & InDesign can be sketching tools rather than layout tools. A better understanding by stakeholders of how design options will hold up across devices. The ability to make important decisions in the browser. We don’t necessarily design in the browser, but we *decide* in the browser.”

That last point, in my opinion, is an important distinction to make. As part of a team that primarily evaluates design exploration in static form, to bring up “designing in the browser” connotes thoughts of flat, uninspired and “same-ey”. Ultimately, though, something that looks perfect on paper often feels not-so-perfect on-screen and requires yet another round of decisions.
